Work Begins On New Datacentre

With our original datacentre already close to full capacity in Manchester we are in the process of opening our second UK datacentre right next door to our Manchester head office. This new building presents us with a white sheet of paper on which to design a state of the art datacentre which is likely to be the most energy efficient in Europe.

The new datacentre design is targeting a PuE of just 1.15, quite an aim considering that we already has an enviably green track record on energy efficiency with our main datacentre measuring just 1.18 PuE as supported by granular records taken every five minutes and stretching back over 18 months.

Our new building, which was purchased last month, will mean that new customers will soon be able to enjoy the spacious surrounds which boasts a location with free and secure parking just a very short distance from the motorway system and a stone’s throw away from Media City and the Trafford Centre, one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe.

M247 Operations Director Jonathan Buckle is part of a team managing the build of the new datacentre and he says “ the experience we gained a few years back when we opened our first datacentre will be invaluable to the success of this new building. We’re determined to have our new datafloors operational in the very near future and a number of our development team will be moving across within days to enjoy their spacious new office accommodation. Our team has grown significantly recently and this new space will help us all benefit in so many ways.”

Asked what other changes this new building will bring, Chris Byrd, our Technical Director, said “ Targeting high bandwidth users requiring connectivity under our GlobalAXS brand and the colocation market under our IceColo brand, the new datacentre will house at least 300 racks to which we will be able to deliver 32 amp A + B with an N+1 UPS set up. Importantly, the new datacentre will have a carrier neutral proposition with 60Gbps of activated connectivity capacity including an advanced 10Gbps IP and MPLS network connected directly to 7 of the world\'s largest and most important Internet exchanges via a resilient European network ring spanning Manchester, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Belgium with a full London bypass. We also have direct peering relationships with 70% of all the European ISPs. Our recent investment and massive capacity positions us with practically unlimited growth potential for many years into the future.”

More news to follow as the new datacentre building progresses.

Major Improvements to Network Infrastructure

We have recently invested £120k in upgrading our network with immediate benefits being felt by our customers.

GlobalAXS’s Operational Director Jonathan Buckle said “ we now have a massive capacity that positions us with practically unlimited growth potential for many years into the future. Our connectivity operations can anticipate new lucrative revenue streams that will make the effort and expense well worthwhile”.

GlobalAXS\'s Manchester metropolitan ring now provides 40Gbit/s speed while our London ring is now in place at 20Gbit/s speeds, allowing GlobalAXS to offer layer2/MPLS services in each London Dockland datacentre. Additionally a new circuit from Manchester Telecity Williams to London Telehouse North has been established and this can provide speeds of 20Gbit/s, crucially giving GlobalAXS a third alternate path from Manchester to London. We have also completed yet another strategically important circuit recently connecting Manchester Telecity Kilburn to Amsterdam Telecity 2, effectively by-passing London completely.

Many GlobalAXS customers requiring low latency and high resiliency will experience immediate benefits from this investment.

An increase in growth in datacentres as a whole in the UK provides a growing market for GlobalAXS and we are now able to offer IP/MPLS/layer2 and a broad range of new services such as IPv6/MPLS/MPLS VPN, with dual stacked IPv4 and IPv6 now as standard. GlobalAXS now plans to roll out our new services to Digital Subscriber Line customers, a challenge only being contemplated by many providers around the world.

Jonathan Buckle said “the year so far for GlobalAXS has been like a ride on a Saturn 5 Rocket. We are experiencing phenomenal growth and all against an uncertain economic background. With this level of activity, surely the UK economy is poised for recovery and maybe it will be led by internet activities”.

London No Longer Only Player In European Data Exchange

The increasing amount of Manchester based companies requiring high capacity data transfer can now benefit from a brand new European data link.

In what represents a major step forward in upgrading our service and making data transfers more resilient, our Manchester based internet connectivity company GlobalAXS Communications, a division of M247, has just announced that its established a high capacity, 10,000Mbps., dedicated link between our Manchester datacentre and the massive Amsterdam Internet Exchange Point.

Technical Director Chris Byrd says “Until now, the entire UK was heavily dependent on London for its internet connectivity but this new link will fully by-passes the Capital giving both commercial and consumer internet users a choice”.

Amsterdam ranks second highest density of interconnecting Internet Service Providers in Europe; London still ranking top of the pile and since Manchester ranks second in the UK, the new link between Manchester and Amsterdam greatly improves the “safety” of data exchange. Should London fail for whatever disastrous reason, such as fire or flood or terrorist attack, the new link will mean that data transfer can now take a new route.

Like many technology improvements these days, this link, though it’s of a high National strategic importance, will be completely transparent to the user and even if London was ever unable to supply internet connectivity, the new GlobalAXS Communications link alone is capable of ensuring that private and internet data communications will be maintained between the UK and the whole of Europe.

GlobalAXS Communications is one of the very few internet connectivity companies who can offer resiliency to this high level and the new link complements its high capacity European backbone network encompassing Manchester, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels, Prague and Milan.

Byrd says “GlobalAXS Communications can offer this London–independent connectivity in any Manchester datacentre or any other building within a 20km radius of our own datacentre in Trafford Park. We anticipate that Manchester users who transfer large amounts of data, such as media companies, government departments, law companies and the like, will see real benefits”.

M247 Ltd ranked 4th fastest growing technology company

M247 Ltd, the parent company of GlobalAXS, are proud to announce their ranking in the 2010 Deloitte Technology Fast 50, placing them in the top 50 fastest growing technology companies in the UK

To determine the fastest growing companies, Deloitte reviewed fiscal year revenues over the last five years, calculated the revenue growth percentage, and compared the growth of all the technology companies. Making this list is a significant accomplishment for M247 Ltd.

David Buckle, MD at M247 Ltd responded to the announcement: \"Everybody at M247 Ltd is pleased to receive our Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50 Ranking. We enjoy the challenge of growing a company even in difficult economic times in an industry that is always changing. We believe our ranking is a reflection on our strong financial and environmental philosophy which has enabled us to grow where others have failed”.

Mr Buckle continued, \"We have built our own datacentre which uses our in house developed state of the art cooling system, and is on track to save over 1,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide per year. Our reinvestment of the majority of our earned income in R&D and building our datacentre has had a positive environmental impact by reducing our carbon footprint as well as controlling costs. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our staff and directors to move at speed making the right decisions, not just the cheapest ones, thereby improving the service to our customers.\"
